Ephesians 6:10-13 NKJV 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. How are we able to stand against the wiles of the devil? By putting on the WHOLE armor of God. Why do we need armor? Because, we do not fight against human beings. Our fight is purely spiritual-against principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and spiritual hosts. That sounds scary doesn’t it? When I read this passage of scripture I actually picture myself in a wrestling arena. I am surrounded by huge Sumo wrestlers named Prince-Ipalities, Powers, Rulers of Darkness, and Spiritual Hosts. They tag team taking turns pinning me to the mat. Sometimes, they even spring off the ropes, and land right on top of me. But I am not giving up. The word “wrestling” implies that they haven’t beaten me. If you’ve ever attended or been a part of a wrestling match, you have seen the determination of each opponent. Neither one will easily forfeit. We don’t have to, either. You see, we are not in the ring alone! We have God, the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit as our tag team partners! Therefore, our enemies are already defeated! However, our tag-team partners don’t always jump in right away. Sometimes, they take so long, I begin to wonder if they are going to help me at all. During this time, God promises that if we put on the WHOLE armor of God, we will be able to withstand in the evil day (when we are being pinned to the mat). And when we have completely exhausted ourselves, we can continue to stand because we are assured that God’s armor is protecting us. I hope you enjoyed reading the word of God in a new light.
