Stop, Drop, & Pray
Sept. 7, 2005

Today's Topic is Stop, Drop, & Pray!

1 Sam 1:8-11 NKJV  8 Then Elkanah her husband said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep?
Why do you not eat? And why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”  9
So Hannah arose after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was
sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the tabernacle of the LORD. 10 And she was in bitterness
of soul, and prayed to the LORD and wept in anguish. 11 Then she made a vow and said, “O
LORD of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me,
and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him
to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.”

1 Sam 2:21 NKJV  And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived and bore three sons
and two daughters. Meanwhile the child Samuel grew before the LORD.

From childhood, we are taught how to react to some major natural disasters.  For example, in case of a
tornado, we should get into a closed space that doesn't have windows.  For an earthquake, we are
advised to get under a table or some sort of covering that will shield us from falling objects.  On planes,
we are informed about using our seats as flotation devices and the availability of oxygen masks in
emergency cases.  For fires, we are advised to be aware of our emergency exits and if our clothing is
ignited we should stop, drop, and roll.

Wouldn't it be wise to have a plan for spiritual disasters?  Try this one:  stop, drop, and pray.  Hannah
used this method.  She was experiencing so much grief and depression over not being able to have
children.  But one day, she decided that enough was enough.  She needed to stop what she was doing
in order to change the outcome.  So she stopped, then she went to the house of the Lord and she
dropped.  Then she prayed like never before and God heard her cry.  Not only that, but He blessed her
with over and abundantly more than she could ever ask or think.

So the next time a spiritual disaster occurs, remember these emergency procedures.  STOP all other
activities.  DROP to the floor, and PRAY to the Almighty and All-Knowing Father God who cares and is
always wiling to help His children.

I hope you enjoyed reading the word of God in a new light.  Have a Happy Wednesday!
