The Highway of
the Upright
Jun. 14, 2006

Today's Topic is The Highway of the Upright

Prov. 16:17-19 NKJV  The highway of the upright is to depart from evil; He who keeps his way
preserves his soul. 18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.  19
Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, Than to divide the spoil with the proud.

There are some people (male and female) who will always refuse to look at a map, no matter how lost
they may be.  They feel as if they do not need a map to give them direction or guidance, but that is an
    example of a haughty spirit.

Some people try to disguise haughtiness as confidence but they are totally two different things.  To be
confident, means to be pretty sure of oneself based off of past experiences or knowledge.  To be
haughty, means to think more of oneself or to have a sense of superiority over other people.  These type
of people tend to think that they know more than anyone else in a particular area and won't let anyone tell
them anything, even if they are only trying to help.

But God says that a haughty spirit comes before a fall.  That is because a haughty person is not listening
to those around them that are trying to warn them about what is ahead.  Instead, they are turning their
noses up at the advise and wind up falling flat on their faces.

This is not what God desires for us.  He places people in our paths with experience and testimonies who
can give us godly counsel about the situations that we are in.  These people are not only on our jobs and
in our churches, but they are also in the Bible.  Let us not be haughty.  Let us instead take the highway of
the upright and walk in the spirit of humbleness.

I hope you enjoyed reading the word of God in a new light.  Have a Happy Wednesday!

    God Bless,
