Selling Our Birthright
Jan. 17, 2007
Today's Topic is Selling Our Birthright

Gen. 25:33 NKJV  Then Jacob said, “Swear to me as of this day.” So he swore to him, and sold
    his birthright to Jacob.

In Gen. 25:29-34, we learn that Esau sold his birthright to his younger twin, Jacob.  Esau did not consider
his birthright to be valuable so he had no problem handing it over to his brother in exchange for a meal.
Why is this relevant to us today?

It is relevant because some of us have sold our birthrights also.  When Jesus came and died for our sins
He gave birthrights to all who would receive them.  And He is also waiting for those who would not
receive them to accept His offer of salvation.  This birthright is our only evidence that proves that Heaven
is our home and God is Father.

But some of us have turned up our noses at our birthrights.  Instead we laugh at His sacrifice, because
we cannot see the value in the inheritance that God is offering to us.  So we laugh in His face as we hand
our birthright over to the devil.  We tell God that living our lives our way is more important than being one
of His sons.  But still, He waits for us.

He has a birthright with each of our names on it whether we receive it or not.  But if we chose to throw it
away, and never repent then we shall lose our birthright forever.  But if we chose instead to pick it back
up, God will gladly welcome us into our rightful place as one of His sons.

Selling our birthrights is the worst mistake we could ever make, but if we repent right now there is still
time to make things right.  Salvation is the most valuable thing that God could have ever given us.
Please don't walk away without receiving it.  By accepting Jesus into our lives today, we will be claiming
our birthright and securing our home in Heaven where we belong.

I hope you enjoyed reading the word of God in a new light.  Have a Happy Wednesday!

    God Bless,
