2 Tim 1:7 NKJV For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Last week we learned that God has given us Power to overcome fear. This week we will study the Love that God has given us to overcome fear.
in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment..." How does Love conquer fear? Consider a mother's love for her child. Most mothers would do anything for their children, especially if they are in danger. They are willing to risk their own lives in order to spare their child pain. But why aren't they afraid to risk their lives? Because, their love for their child supersedes the fear of pain at that moment. This is the same Love that Christ displayed for us on the cross. That is why He was not afraid to bear the cross for our sins. His Love is and was more powerful than any delusion Satan could invoke upon Him, so fear stayed far away from Him. Love gives us a boldness and a fearlessness that surpasses reason. How many times have we seen a teenager stand up to his/her parents and declare their love for some unworthy person? It happens all the time and it is because of the boldness they feel that allows them to risk the consequences of defying their parents (and ohhh, what consequences they will be), but it doesn't matter to them at the time because they are "in love". Why? Because, Love = Victory over Fear However, Love in itself is not enough to conquer all fear, that is why God gave us Power as we learned last week and a Sound Mind. These are the weapons that God has given us to fight against fear. Next week, we will discuss how a Sound Mind also gives us victory over fear.
