Only One God

1 Kings 18:36 NKJV 36 And it came to pass, at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came
near and said, “LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and I am Your
servant, and that I have done all these things at Your word.

God is serious when he says "Thou shalt not have any other gods before me."  King Ahab and the four-hundred fifty prophets of Baal
had to learn that the hard way.  Because Elijah was in right standing with God, he could issue the challenge to Ahab without the fear
of God not showing up.  Because God is a Holy God, anything that challenges his Holiness, is sure to get what it deserves.

When the prophets of Baal put the meat for the sacrifice on the altar,  Baal was suppose to answer by fire and accept the sacrifice
that was on the altar.  As was their custom, the prophets of Baal danced, shouted, and even cut themselves in order for Baal to
show up.  However, there was not a word from Baal, and no one paid attention (1 Kings 18:29).

When it is Elijah's turn, not only does God answer by fire, but he totally consumes the sacrifice, the wood, the stones, and even the
ground around the altar. What is the point?  God will move heaven and earth if he needs to in order to prove that there is no God but
him.  God may not necessarily send down fire from heaven on our behalf, but he will show himself strong to all those who live a holy
life, and for those who know, that there is only one God, and his name is Jehovah.
