Safety
Mar. 4, 2009
Ps. 4:7-8 NKJV 7 You have put gladness in my heart, More than in the season that their grain and wine increased. 8 I will both lie
down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.

Public opinion appears to be that we are living in scary times.  The economic crisis as described by some politicians is as bad as it
was in the time of the depression.  The stock market closed at the lowest average in almost twelve years and people are being
layed off everywhere.  So how can we talk about safety at a time like this?

Because we have to remind ourselves daily what the word of God is telling us.  In John 17:20-22, Jesus says this prayer for us, 20 “I
do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father,
are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 And the glory which You
gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one.

What does this have to do with safety?  Jesus prays that we will be one with God, meaning that we will walk so closely with Him that
we will resemble his characteristics.  In order to do that, we must live God's word.  According to Psalm 91, those who dwell (live,
abide) in the secret place of the Most High (God's word) shall abide (wait patiently) under the shadow (protection) of the Almighty.
In other words, those who live God's word shall wait patiently under the protection of the Almighty God.  This is God's promise of
safety for those who are willing to live by God's word and it is this promise that allows us to lie down in peace and sleep (Ps. 4:7-8)
    while the world remains confounded.

I hope you enjoyed reading the word of God in a new light.  Have a Happy Wednesday!
