Ex 3:13-14 KJV 13And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God
of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? What shall I say unto them? 14And God said
unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
In this passage of scripture, Moses was concerned that the children of Israel would not follow him unless he had a "brand name" to
stand behind. What does that mean? It means that people back then are the same as people are now. We need a popular name
to identify a product by. We need a well known symbol on our clothes to alert a passerby of where we like to shop, and we need a
renowned preacher to tell us how to get out of the mess that we did not need his/her help getting into.
But God did not give Moses a "brand name". Instead, He gave Moses a vague and generic one. A name that had never been heard
before but could not be paralleled. God told Moses, "I AM THAT I AM." That's it.
So let's recap. God drew Moses up the mountain with a burning bush. Then, He dazzled Moses with a serpent rod and leprosy
hand illusions. And the best He could come up with to give Moses was "I AM"? What's that about? (There could have at least been
fireworks.)
What God was really telling Moses is the same as what God has been trying to communicate to us. God is saying, "I AM so big that
I will not waste my time trying to define myself because nothing is big enough or grand enough to define Me." So, we have two
choices. We either realize that God is big enough and let go of everything. Or, we waste our lives in search of the next "brand name"
that is suppose to make us happy.
God is all and everything we need. That should make the choice simple. Trust God.
I hope you enjoyed reading the word of God in a new light. Have a Happy Wednesday!
