them light, so as to go by day and night. What an awesome sight that must have been to watch a pillar shaped cloud form right before their eyes! Then watch it move itself (while remaining in the same formation) for miles and miles. By observation, clouds do not often stay in one place for very long, nor do they hold formations for extended lengths of time. With that knowledge alone, we are able to conclude that this was no ordinary cloud but one that was handcrafted by the Lord for a specific purpose. God knew that the Israelites needed His guidance, but not just any kind of guidance. They needed an unmistakable torch that would not only signify that He was with them, but would also make clear the path that they were to take. How much more will God do this for us? God is very aware that we need His direction. He may not show Himself as a pillar of cloud, but He will go out of His way to light our path. He has supplied us with His Holy Spirit and the Bible. He has given us access to multiple resources such as pastors, ministers, godly brothers and sisters in Christ, devotionals and other media. All of those things can be used as a compass to show us the way that points back to God. God knows what type of guidance our situation requires and He has specifically designed and purposed a torch for us to lead the way. It is now up to us to decide if we will use it.
