Life & Death
in the Tongue
Mar. 1, 2006

This week's Wednesday Insight was submitted by a member of our Wednesday Insights Family!  The
message that God has shared with her through this passage of scripture really blessed me, as I hope
that it will bless you too!  God Bless, Min. Tommy & Sis. Shatika Gray

Today's Topic is Life & Death is in the Tongue

My favorite scriptures in the book of Daniel is chapter 3.  Not because of the deliverance in the fire, but
because of what happens before they even get to the fire.

Look in Daniel 3:14-15 NKJV when Nebuchadnezzar asked and said to Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-Nego,"Is it true that you do not serve my gods or worship the gold image which I have set
up?  Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and
psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, and fall down and worship the image which I
have made, good!, But if you do not worship, you will be cast immediately into the midst of a
burning fiery furnace.  And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?"

Their answer is a true statement of life and death in the tongue.  (vs 16-18)  For they answered the king,
"O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter.   If that is the case, our God
whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and HE will deliver us from
your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor
will we worship the gold image which you have set up."

Look at the statement of faith they made in the face of death.  Nothing you do, O king, or say to us will
make us turn our backs on God.  For nothing will separate us from Him, not even death. We know Him,
and whether in or out of season we will serve only Him.  (my version)

This is the part that gets me.  After their statement of faith the King got so HOT that he ordered them to
the fiery furnace commanding that the fire be turned up SEVEN times higher. But catch this, because of
Shadrach, and Meshach, and Abed-Nego's faith their deliverance came outside the fire. (vs 20)  And
he (the king) commanded certain mighty men of valor who were in his army to bind Shadrach,
Meshach, and Abed-Nego, and cast them into the burning fiery (seven times hotter) furnace. (vs
    22) Therefore, because the king's command was urgent, and the furnace exceedingly hot, the
flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego.  Should not
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego been consumed by the fire like the king's men?  They should have
instantly been killed, but God saved their lives outside the box of fire.

This reaffirms to me the statement that life and death is in the tongue.  When we are faced with life
challenges, sickness and all matter of problems, our answers and deliverance lies in our
statement/beliefs of faith.  Whose words are we going to believe and who do we trust in?  When
everyone one is following the norm and it seems right but is not righteous, what are we going to do?  Will
we make a stand even in the face of being cut off from friends and loved ones?  In the face of threats and
death will we be obedient to God and say no matter what, I will serve only the Lord?  The Three Hebrew
Boys did and God showed up on their behalf outside the box!

Vs 25 "Look!" he answered, "I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are
not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God."

There is life and death in the tongue and what we speak activates our faith and allows God to move on
our behalf even before we are physically placed in the fiery box.

Love you all and thanks for reading,
    Jeanette

Editors note:  I also noticed that even though they were loosed outside of the fiery furnace, God let them
get in anyway so that He would get all of the glory!  Hallelujah!
